The first image shows two different styles of pyramids. The labeling to the side of the bottom section of the top pyramid reads "Sponsors, Mentors, Parents, Teachers" - basically anyone outside of team members that make the team possible.
The second image has sketches of the two types of pyramids, as well as ideas about what to put in the top- and bottom-most sections. Ms. Ward talked about possibly having 2 different sets of buttons. One set might contain the phrases (and appropriate visuals) "eat robotics" "drink robotics" and "sleep robotics" or something similar, while the other might contain pictures of the different robotics "food groups" shown in the pyramid.
The pyramid will appear on the back of the tshirt, while the buttons will be distributed at competition and will possibly be used as advertisement for the team. Buttons are 2 1/4" in diameter.
What do you think are the pros and cons of each type of pyramid? Which should we go with?
Do you have any other ideas for button designs? Feel free to sketch out your ideas and upload them as a separate post to open them up for discussion.
i like the food groups idea better.. =] depends how we are labeling them.. like parts, bolts and all that? o_o
ReplyDeleteumm maybe serving sizes? for buttons xD like.. a cup filled with bolts? lol
I think we would be labeling them with parts- Ms. Ward talked about having the different middle sections of the pyramid contain things like nuts, bolts, screws, chain, aluminum, wheels, motors, etc (everything on the bot!).
ReplyDeleteI like your idea about serving sizes. To make it a bit more... techy? xP... we could maybe measure/count how many bolts are used on the entire bot, and create a button that has pictures of bolts and is labeled with "82 bolts" (<-- random number. I have no clue how many bolts were used on last year's robot)... Although on second thought, they're always making last minute changes to the bot, so that might be difficult.
haha don't count. just "estimate" ;p. its not like someone is going count the number of bolts in it anyways xD lol
ReplyDeleteLooks pretty awesome, so far!
ReplyDelete-About Pyramids: While the new design is more current and up-to-date and all, it seems like it would be easier to fit text and graphics in the food group boxes of the old pyramid, since it wouldn't have to be angled and cramped (especially in the case of the 'oils' group on the new one). Unless labels/pictures would go outside of the boxes...or we changed up the proportions for box sizes on the new pyramid...? I don't really know though; that's just a random thought.
Aw. It thought my last comment was too long, so I'm posting the rest as a separate one. (Sorry!)
ReplyDelete-About T-Shirts/Buttons: Maybe 2 different T-shirt designs (like the 07-08 year) as well as 2 sets of buttons, if Media's feeling particularly ambitious this year? The theme could be split into the food-groups idea (food pyramid shirt + food group buttons) and the food-pyramid-sayings idea (healthy bots healthy minds + eat/sleep/drink robotics). That would be a lot more work though...combining both things on one shirt and just having 1-2 sets of buttons would work too. ^^
Aah! One more thing! I might've heard this from Lauren or Ms. Ward, actually...but anyways:
ReplyDeleteFor the pyramid design, instead of a person climbing up the side, maybe we could have a robot?
I like the idea of having a robot climbing up the side of the pyramid- sort of showing that all the parts culminate in the complete robot, and it's not possible if you don't have everything (including duct tape and twine etc of course... hehe)
ReplyDeleteRyan (who's reading over my shoulder) suggested that we could have the robot holding up the pyramid on a platter, sort of like a waiter. That would also be in keeping with the whole food/nutrition idea.
I agree that the old/traditional pyramid is better suited for what we want to do. People can also recognize it more easily.
I think that 2 sets of buttons are a good idea, and it might make our pit more popular =]
I also like the categories that you suggested, Anna.
If we do do 2 tshirts, I think one should definitely be the food pyramid. What would the second idea be though? We could always duplicate the designs used in the matching set of buttons- a vertical column of 3 circles or something, with the motto arching over and under the column? That might be a bit redundant though, unless someone has a better idea... We could always just put the motto somewhere on the first tshirt.
Hm...maybe we could use both pyramid + robot ideas, and have a bunch more robots--like one climbing the pyramid, one holding it on a platter, one hammering it, one bolting something on, etc. Although that might make it look too cluttered...=/
ReplyDeleteYeah, 2 sets of buttons would also be cool if we ever tried selling them or passing them out at some publicity event or other. :]
Of course...the pyramid idea is awesome. :D
For the possible-second-shirt: Maybe 3 different robots across the back (horizontal row), each showing one doing something to show the eat/sleep/drink ideas, and each with its "eat/sleep/drink robotics" saying? Well that's not all that different from Lauren's idea...but anyways...yeah, having the mottos on the same shirt as the pyramid would work too...or just having them only on the buttons.
Do you think it's ok if the robots are... idk, like transformer-esque style rather than the more boxy, less humanized ones that FIRST robotics teams build?
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah, that's more of what I was thinking...something more along the lines of: http://fc04.deviantart.com/fs40/f/2009/003/a/c/cute_robots_by_jump_button.jpg
ReplyDelete(I just googled robot drawings or something like that, and that one looked cool. :])
I was just thinking... a bunch of little humanoid robots climbing all over the pyramid could symbolize the many team members (NOT a robot for each team member, but a bunch of robots to symbolize the team). Like, maybe we could have one robot locking up the "off limits" top section (duct tape, zip ties, etc), a robot making phone calls (sponsors), a robot welding, a robot at the computer (media?), etc, and then maybe a couple of robots working together to climb up one side with a flag w/ the FIRST logo.
ReplyDeleteIF the image isn't too busy (which it most likely will be) we could put a larger image of our actual robot (based off the CAD) holding up or supporting the pyramid. Actually, on second thought, that could be on a second tshirt, with the eat/sleep/drink robots (the design could be based off of the 2010 game)
we could have a little Olympics thing with robots standing in a row ;p. (holding up their hands together)they would have to be cute then.. not like Octavius prime xD or maybe a mini.
ReplyDeleteAaah! That sounds awesome, Lauren! :D
ReplyDeleteI like the FIRST logo-flag idea, especially. Hm...I don't think any of the other shirts have incorporated the FIRST logo before, have they? o.O
And yeah, sounds like a good idea, if there are 2 shirts.
@ Lily: You mean have robots with the Olympics logo? Or just have mascot-sorta-things, like they did for the Beijing Olympics, but with robots?
Lol no. I meant diffrent robots holding their hands up together. xD
